Tuck is a boy shipwrecked on an island with a cursed pirate.
Vella is a young wizard learning to wield powerful magic.
And Squiggle is an adorable sea monster searching for his family.
But the treasure is hidden by a series of complex riddles designed by Lady Fray.
Together, they hope to find a legendary treasure.

Long ago, Lady Fray was the most powerful pirate and wizard in Rockbottom. She enjoyed toying with her enemies, and she filled the world with dozens of magic riddles. Anyone who asked for mercy would be given a chance to solve one of her riddles. Failure meant death. But those clever enough to solve her riddles would be allowed to join her crew.
A century later, Lady Fray has vanished, but her riddles remain. Many people have stumbled into her riddles, never to be seen again. Others have escaped with devastating curses.
Now, the world of Rockbottom is Lady Fray’s legacy—a legacy of magic and adventure and death. Can Tuck and his friends survive to find the legendary treasure? And can they solve the mystery of Lady Fray’s disappearance?
Only a handful of adventurers have survived Lady Fray's treasure hunt.
As one of the few survivors, Vella is feeling lost. Her dream of being the greatest wizard in Rockbottom has been shattered, and she’ll need more than three measly spells to keep her friends alive. In desperation, she decides to increase her powers with a dangerous relic.
To solve the riddle, Vella and her friends will need to join a crew of villains captained by an arrogant sea troll.
They’ll also need to solve some important mysteries—like why is Squiggle acting so strangely? And who has betrayed them? And what’s going on with Tuck’s sword?
But Vella has been given a deadly and mysterious riddle.
